The Missa Solemnis is one of the greatest achievements of one of the greatest composers of all time. To no other composition did Beethoven give so much time, effort and attention; it expresses, on a grand scale, his deepest and most personal spirituality. Beethoven worked on the Missa Solemnis for about five years, at the peak of his powers. Its first performance was in April, 1824, less than a month before the premiere of his Ninth Symphony (a performance that also included three movements from the Missa Solemnis). Beethoven's dedication, on the first page of the score: "From the heart—may it go again—to the heart."

Nola Richardson, soprano
Kate Maroney, mezzo-soprano
Dann Coakwell, tenor

David McFerrin, bass
