J.S. Bach: Mass in B minor

8:00pm May 31, 2014 Jordan Hall

With soloists Teresa Wakim, Soprano I; Elisabeth Marshall, Soprano II; Reginald Mobley, countertenor; Jason McStoots, tenor*; and David McFerrin, bass.

(* Tenor Matthew Anderson withdrew due to illness.)

Considered one of Bach’s greatest works—and one of the greatest choral works by anyone—the Mass in B Minor brings together skills Bach refined throughout his life. He completed it in 1749, the year before his death. Bach scholar Christoph Wolff wrote that it is “a summary of his writing for voice, not only in its variety of styles, compositional devices, and range of sonorities, but also in its high level of technical polish.” With soloists and full orchestra.
