Ongoing Operations

WEBSITE DESIGN AND MAINTENANCE

Contact: Peter Pulsifer

Does stale website information drive you nuts? Do you crave clear communication and ease of use? Do confusing sites get deleted off of your "Favorites" list? We need help redesigning our website this year and keep it inviting and updated throughout the season.

Time Commitment: open.

We need several kinds of people:

  1. Talent for design: web-design experience not necessary, and
  2. Technically savvy people: design experience desirable but not essential, and
  3. Good promoters, who understand what our public is looking for.

Design

Site needs

Maintenance

This job requires occasional updates that are coordinated with Chorus Manager/Jean Player, Concert Promotions Director/Peter Pulsifer, and sometimes our Graphics Designer/Axie Breen. The main cycle revolves around the week before and after each concert, as well as some quick ad hoc requests.

Other duties

This website is our presentation to the outside world so we need to put our best foot forward. The world is seeking great music, so let's invite them to our house!

BOX OFFICE MANAGEMENT

Contact: Jean Player

Time Commitment: October 2009 through June 2010, heaviest periods are roughly two weeks leading up to each performance and then the performance itself.

We need a highly organized person to take over the management of the box office and ticket sales.

FUNDRAISING EVENTS & DEVELOPMENT

Contact: Peggy Stevens or Jean Player

Time Commitment: varies, depending on event timeline.

Do you like to throw parties? Would you like to meet people who share your musical interests? Do you want to make sure that CpM can contimue to perform with the best musicians, in the best concert halls, in Boston? We can't do it without Development!

Fundraising is essential to what we do. Our fundraising goal from special events is $15,000 (in addition to Annual Fund and concert sponsorships). In the past, we have had gala parties, benefit performances featuring celebrity soloists, formal receptions, and a Fenway Day to raise money. We would also like to organize events where supporters and potential supporters can meet Betsy and learn more about the chorus.

Development is more than just fundraising—it is making and keeping friends for the chorus. By helping with chorus development you are helping to build a community of people who share our belief in the beauty and transformative power of choral music.

PROGRAM AD SALES

Contact: Peter Pulsifer or Jean Player

Time Commitment: open; September–November/January–May.

Do you know of businesses looking for extra publicity? Help us identify and contact local businesses to ask if they would like to advertise in our programs. It's a great low-competition promotional path for these business and a great fund-raiser for us as well!

What restaurants do the chorus and our audience eat at? What music supply stores would they visit for CDs, sheet music, instruments, recording equipment? What about music schools? It's a good way to get involved with the community—and each concert has its own opportunities (for example, Rachmaninoff for the Russian community—restaurants, bookstores, newspapers, cultural venues, etc.) If you call or visit a half-dozen businesses, you could be done!

VENUE DATABASE CREATOR

Contact: Portia Walker or Jean Player

Do you love acoustics? Are you fascinated by architecture? Do you like to perform in different neighborhoods? We are looking for some new gems for all types of concerts. Help us find new performance spaces! We want to build a database of venues that we can use for future seasons.

Time Commitment: open.
Completion of project date: February 1, 2010. (Note: Jean has some information to pass along about future prospects).

The database specifics we would like to gather are:

  1. Capacity
  2. General Availability

Ideal number of venues: minimum of 15 for concerts from baroque to modern.
